OVERALL JOB PURPOSE

The Pain Study Research Nurse will be the focal nurse responsible for the pilot including of collection of basic demographic, and medical information and will be the focal study pain nurse in administering the intervention with the support of other nurses.

       

 

KEY RESULT AREAS (OUTPUTS)

  • Research study explained to potential research participants
  • Paper data forms are filled out and sent to the Research Coordinator daily.
  • All participants involved in the pilot study are consented using the approved and stamped Informed Consent Forms.
  • Basic demographic & medical information is collected from each participant in the study.
  • VR glasses introduced to each child in the study while offering the child the possibility to use these during the dressing. 
  • Video recording of every dressing session done with every participant from the beginning till the end of the procedure. 
  • Research protocol full observed (i.e.10 wound dressing sessions provided daily so as to meet the 600 patient target of the research study, etc).
  • All research equipment maintained daily by ensuring regular servicing. §           Ethical code of conduct and professional conduct adhere to 
  • Infection control measures observed in the work environment.

 

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain good patient interaction while ensuring that the research study is explained to all potential research participants before the study.
  • Fill out paper data forms with data collected from participants as stated in the research proposal.
  • To offer all children aged 4 to 17 years who have to undergo medical procedures at CoRSU hospital to watch a 3D cartoon using the VR glasses during daily dressing for a period of 3 months. 
  • To consent parents, assent children aged 4 to 17 years who undergo, and consent nurses who administer wound dressing interested in participating in the pilot study using the approved and stamped Informed Consent Forms.

To collect basic demographic, and medical information from each child, and parent, and show, explain, and administer the FACES and CFS to the child (T1, data collection file attached).

§

to introduce the VR glasses to the child and offer the child the possibility to use these during the dressing. Register if the child declined, hesitated but accepted after encouragement, or accepted the glasses at once. If accepted the CoRSU nurses will start the procedure while the child is watching the video, if not accepted they administer the standard procedure. 

§

To ensure video recording of every dressing session with a participant. Record the child, parent, and nurse attending to the child from the beginning till the end of the procedure.

§

After completing the medical procedure, the study nurse will administer the FACES and CFS again with parent and child.

§

A day after the procedure the designated study nurse will ask the parent and child the same questions again (T3, data collection file attached). 

§

Other research administrative duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator of the research study.

§

Participates in at least one departmental meeting monthly.

§

Participate in continuous medical education (CME) sessions.

§

Adhere to ethical code of conduct and professional conduct. 

§

 

Observe Infection control measures in the work environment.

This role requires a high level of mental concentration and attention to details to ensure patients coming to theatre receive an excellent standard of care, and injuries are prevented among staff working in the department.
