Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services for people with disability in Uganda (CoRSU) is a private non-profit, non-governmental organization and is supported by CBM (Christian Blind Mission). CoRSU provides Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Rehabilitation, mainly for children as well as adults with disability.

 

CoRSU is looking for an experienced Plumber (Short-Term 4 months) to handle all plumbing related tasks in the Hospital.  The job holder will report to the Head of Estates.

                                                                                           

  • MAIN TASKS
  • Assess and prioritize all hospital plumbing works; inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, and to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring and (study building plans where necessary).
  • Process (through the Head of Estates) requests for pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing and welding equipment that is required for use during a specific task.
  • compile lists of items to be procured and support the Head of Estates during plumbing material-related procurement processes with technical inputs whenever required and compile lists of required material for procurement processes.
  • Work closely with the Head of Estates to review blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine and approve work details and procedures.
  • Prepare written task requirements; estimate and develop schedules and handle tasks in order of priority by:
    • Assembling and installing valves and fittings as expected
    • Installing, repairing and maintaining underground storm sanitary and water piping systems
    • Installing, repairing and maintaining water heaters and conditioners, sinks, tubs and toilets
    • Installing, repairing and maintaining water piping and engineering; plumbing fixtures, appliances as well as treatment equipment
  • Carry our quality checks by filling pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air to observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
  • Keep records of assignments and produce detailed work reports including walking around with the immediate supervisor to show the completed tasks.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES

Advanced certificate in plumbing and/or Water Engineering

Diploma in Plumbing and/or Diploma in Water and Mechanical Engineering is an added advantage

 

Work experience & skills

 

Essential

Desirable

4 years’ experience working in a hospital setting.

Practical experience in plumbing works

Experience in water distribution & waste water disposal in residential, commercial and industrial buildings

Ability to work cooperatively with other trades with good team building skills

Relevant building codes, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures of plumbing installations and maintenance

Effective negotiation and mediation skills, analytical and problem solving skills, decision making skills, effective verbal, presentation and communications skills
