Paediatrician (Part-time-16 Hr/week)

Objective of the position:

The Pediatrician provides expert advice and assistance with the management for all complex and critically ill Paediatric patients at CoRSU. The job holder provides regular support to the Cerebral palsy clinic and review all syndromic children admitted to the hospital. Fulltime presence at the hospital is not required but as a physician, availability for telephonic assistance and guidance as well as scheduled presence is necessary.

Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Attending the CP clinic and assisting with developing a management plan for the children
  • Reviewing all complex and syndromic children on the ward
  • Available for consultation by the medical officers or surgeons to assist in the management of acutely sick children admitted to the hospital.
  • Available for advice on diagnosis of syndromic children or those with complex problems.
  • Taking overall responsibility for the sick children on the ward or HDU when the problem is medical and not surgical.
  • Managing sick babies on HDU/ICU
  • Developing CoRSU specific guidelines for treating the most common conditions encountered.
  • Involvement in the hospital CME
  • Teaching (instruction) of the Medical Officers


Job Requirements and Competencies

Academic qualifications

University degree in Medicine & Surgery;

Post graduate specialist training in Paediatrics

Registered with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council.

Good computer knowledge and skills

Research skills


Work experience & skills

Hospital experience of at least 2 years as Paediatrician.

Clinical competency and proficiency in paediatrics.

Good interpersonal skills.

Ultrasound diagnostic skills

Specialist nutrition knowledge helpful

Medical management of acutely sick children

Knowledge of paediatric syndromes

PICU experience
