Overall Job Purpose: The post holder will appropriately admit, manage, discharge and follow up of patients presenting to CoRSU hospital within the expectations and limits of his/her medical knowledge and clinical experience.

 

Key result areas

  • General medical and surgical care of patients ensured.
  • Correct diagnosis and management of attendant medical, surgical, obstetric/ gynaecological and paediatric conditions in admitted patients offered.
  • Correct prescription and administration of suitable medication and other treatment for the diagnosed conditions offered.
  • Administration and/ or supervision or assistance (in) the administration of treatment given through on-call arrangements as and when required or requested to.
  • Appropriate and regular follow up of patients’ conditions and their management provided while in the hospital. (i.e. day to day care of all admitted patients)
  • Outpatient clinic support offered.

 

Detailed Roles and responsibilities

  • Offer the required general medical care of surgical patients at the hospital.
  • Correct diagnosis and management of attendant medical, surgical, obstetric/ gynaecological and paediatric conditions in admitted patients
  • Correct prescription and administration of suitable medication and other treatment for the diagnosed conditions.
  • Administration and/ or supervise or assist (in) the administration of treatment as and when required or requested to.
  • Appropriate and regular follow up of patients’ conditions and their management while in the hospital. (i.e. day to day care of all admitted patients)
  • Assisting the specialists in the care and management of patients.
  • Preparing patients for interventions in their management, including surgical procedures.
  • Participating in ward rounds, out-patients’ clinics and in the operating theatre.
  • Providing 1st(first) on-Call cover for the ward
  • Management of surgical emergencies in consultation with, guidance or supervision of the attending consultant/ specialist surgeon.
  • Accurate entry into patients’ medical records
  • Participating in monthly CMEs, morbidity and mortality meetings.
  • Any clinical or administrative duties assigned by supervisor(s)
  • Consult senior practitioners appropriately and in a timely manner concerning challenging patients and/or medical /surgical situations.
  • For outpatients:
  • Clerking of new patients.
  • Conduct appropriate follow up of patients as they attend the outpatients’ clinics.
  • Recognition of conditions requiring more expert care and/ or referral.
  • Entry of medical records.

 

Academic/Professional qualifications, work experience, knowledge & skills

  • University degree in medicine & surgery
  • Completion of internship and registration with Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioner’s Council (UMDPC) as medical doctor
  • Special Interest in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery/ Orthopaedics surgery will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of one year’s work experience in a medical setting
  • Punctual, reliable and flexible person able to handle on-call requirements.
  • Good computer knowledge and skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation and social skills.

Knowledge of more than one local language is desirable
