CoRSU organised and carried out its first annual CoRSU Disability Walk on 6 October 2024. Over 600 people braved the morning downpour to take part.

Why we walked

The objective of the walk was to create awareness of the situation of vulnerable people with disability and to raise funds for their surgical and rehabilitation services. It also set out to foster a change in attitude: disability is not inability, it can be treated, and everyone should be made to feel part of the community.

Who took part

The walk was spearheaded by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development and the Ministry of Health, together with donor and civil society partners, the business community and private individuals. Both Ministers of State of the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development took part. Hon. Hellen Grace Asamo flagged off the walkers, and Hon. Balam Barugahare Ateenyi shared a light moment with some of the children with disabilities who participated.

What the walk raised

“The net proceeds from the Walk of UGX 34,000,000 subsidized the cost of surgeries at CoRSU for a number of vulnerable children with disability.”

Victor B.O. Odongo, President, CoRSU Board of Directors
