Rehabilitation

Post-surgery rehabilitation

Therapy and assistive devices that help patients regain movement, strength and independence after an operation.

Overview

About post-surgery rehabilitation

A successful operation is one step. Regaining movement, function and confidence afterwards takes therapy, and time.

Because CoRSU keeps surgery and rehabilitation on one site, therapy can begin while the patient is still in hospital. Early rehabilitation can speed recovery, improve outcomes and support a smooth, timely discharge.

Therapists work alongside the surgeons and the orthopaedic workshop, which makes orthoses, prostheses, wheelchairs, crutches and special orthopaedic shoes when a patient needs them. After the patient goes home, the community team can visit to see how recovery is progressing.

Rehabilitation after surgery can include

  • Physiotherapy to rebuild strength and movement
  • Occupational therapy for everyday activities
  • Hand therapy after hand surgery
  • Assistive devices from the orthopaedic workshop
  • Home follow-up visits by the community team

Children aged five and under are treated free at CoRSU, and older children at a subsidised rate. Gifts from people like you make that possible.
