Before CoRSU

Seven-year-old Vivian is the second child in her family. She was born with bowed legs. Earlier efforts to correct them did not succeed, because her parents could not raise the money for further treatment in a specialised hospital.

Vivian had pain when walking long distances, standing, and playing with friends.

A community mobiliser identified Vivian and referred her to CoRSU. Her father was worried that he could not afford the cost of treatment, but the hope of seeing his daughter well pushed him to come.

Care at CoRSU

At CoRSU, Vivian was diagnosed with Blount disease. This is a condition in which the growth plate in the upper part of the shinbone (tibia) grows abnormally, and the legs bow as a result.

With funding from MTN Foundation, surgery was performed and her legs were corrected.
