About CoRSU

What does CoRSU stand for?

CoRSU stands for Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services for People with Disability in Uganda. It is a hospital in Kisubi, on Entebbe Road, that provides comprehensive medical and rehabilitation services to people with disability.

Does CoRSU have any other branch in Uganda besides the one on Entebbe Road?

No. CoRSU does not have any other branch. However, the hospital works with partners across the country to mobilise patients and refer them to CoRSU for treatment and rehabilitation.

Costs

Is it true that children get free services at CoRSU?

CoRSU was established in 2006, and the hospital opened in 2009, with the aim of providing free medical and rehabilitation services to children. Today, with growing demand and financial pressures, only children aged 0 to 5 receive free treatment. Children aged 6 to 17 are treated at a subsidised rate, and adults pay in full for their treatment.

How much does a knee surgery at CoRSU cost?

A surgeon will usually examine the knee before the cost of treatment or surgery is worked out. CoRSU does not publish a price list, so the best first step is to book an assessment.

Conditions and treatment

What causes cleft lip and palate?

There is no single known cause of cleft lip and palate, and scientists are still studying it. Genetics, factors such as alcohol use or smoking during pregnancy, and environmental factors may contribute.

What causes bone deformities?

Bone deformities can be caused by genetic factors, hormonal changes, bone infections or accidents.

Can bowed legs or knock knees be treated and corrected?

Yes. A person with bowed legs or knock knees can be treated, and the condition can be corrected.

Are you able to do breast surgery?

Yes, we are able to perform breast surgery at CoRSU.

Staying in hospital

How long can someone stay in hospital after surgery?

It depends on your condition, how fast you heal and how complex your illness is. A hospital stay can range from 2 days to 3 months. The medical team talks with patients regularly, and during these conversations you are told how your healing is progressing and anything else you need to know.
