In 2024 CoRSU celebrated a major milestone in its rehabilitation services: the launch of Phase 1 of its new Rehabilitation Centre. The official opening took place on 28 June 2024.
Construction started in 2023 and was completed in May 2024. The opening had the immediate effect of increasing the number of people receiving rehabilitation services at the hospital.
What the centre is for
The centre was designed to offer flexible and specialised inpatient and outpatient services to a wider range of patients with varying physical impairment needs. It is also expected to increase the organisation's income, and so contribute to CoRSU's growth and long-term sustainability.
We are grateful to CBM for responding to our appeal for partnership and financial support in the construction of the first phase of the centre.
Results in 2024
These figures compare what the Rehabilitation Centre planned for 2024 with what it delivered.
- Physiotherapy sessions: 8,083 delivered against 7,200 planned
- Assistive devices issued: 1,687 against 780 planned
- Prosthetic devices fitted or issued: 101 against 60 planned
- Orthotics fitted or issued: 524 against 150 planned
- Orthopaedic shoes and shoe modifications: 295 against 30 planned
- Wheelchair follow-up and repairs: 144 against 800 planned
Phase 2 is still to be funded
Construction of the second phase, budgeted at about USD 2,000,000, is still pending. It is expected to enable CoRSU to provide additional services, including hydrotherapy, gait laboratory services and a state-of-the-art gym, as well as training and capacity development in the provision of new rehabilitation services.
